Jarnail Basota is a veteran Punjabi journalist, broadcaster, television host, and interviewer based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada — with a journalism career spanning more than four decades across print, radio, and television.
Currently, Basota hosts the Shaam Wala Show on Connect FM 101.7 Edmonton, where he presents daily news, current affairs, political discussions, interviews, and open-line talk shows. He is also the host of Focus Punjabi on OMNI Television, conducting in-depth interviews with political leaders, government officials, community representatives, and newsmakers on issues affecting Canadians, particularly the Punjabi-speaking community.
Before moving to Canada, Basota built an extensive career in India as a journalist with leading Punjabi newspapers, including Jagbani and Punjab Kesri, where he reported on cultural events, entertainment, and public affairs. Throughout his career, he has interviewed numerous politicians, public figures, and renowned artists from India, Canada, and abroad. He also covered official international visits involving former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper as a Punjabi media journalist.
